Farewell Bobby

As the 2010 season draws to
an end, so does the career of legendary Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox. Over
his 25 year career with the Braves, Bobby’s accomplishments are staggering.
Bobby led the Braves to six 100+ win seasons, an unprecedented fourteen consecutive
Divisional Championships, five League Championships and an unforgettable 1995
World Series Championship. He is a three-time Manager of the Year and ranks
fourth all-time in wins among MLB managers.  However, the numbers don’t
tell the whole story of Bobby Cox, who has done it all with class and style,
earning the respect and admiration of players, coaches and fans throughout
baseball. We invite our fans to share their memories and farewells for Bobby
with a comment here.

Bobby Cox is without a doubt one of the greatest managers of all time. I hate to see him go. Whenever this season does end, its going to be a very sad day. Its been an honor and a pleasure to have been able to watch Bobby and the Braves my entire life and to actually remember most of the division titles and the World Series (I was only 2 when all this started, I’m 21 now). I’ve enjoyed the ride. Good-bye Bobby, I wish you nothing but the best in your retirement!

    Thanks For the Memories!

Hi Bobby I will miss you greatly. I have received choptalk for years and have been a fan since 1957. Number 41 was my favorite brave. I am so frustrated the way my braves are performing but still rooting for them.

    Good Luck,

    Kenneth Freitas from California

Your talent and expertise grew the organization I love to watch. Players will miss playing for you, and fans will miss watching them play as hard as they can for you. I’ll see you at your Braves Hall Of Fame induction! Thank you for all you did and will continue to do.

Bobby you will be missed, i hate to see you go and i know we will never have another manager like you, you are the BEST……

Bobby, it just won’t be the same without you! We have watched the Braves for years. I don’t think my mom and dad miss a single game that is aired on tv. They can’t wait for baseball season to begin. Thanks for all the memories. God bless you!

  6. lcolbert26@yahoo.com

Bobby, thanks for the memories! You are first class and you always put your players first. You will be greatly missed. I’m a Braves die-heart! My home is Atlanta but I now live in Memphis. I was one of those little kids who hung around Atlanta Stadium just to get in free at the end of the game during the early 70’s. I never miss seeing a game if I can. Enjoy your retirement Bobby, you have earned it!

Bobby, In October of 1991, we were on our way to the hospital to have our little boy. People were doing the Tommahawk chop as we were going to the hospital & we found out after the fact that the Braves had clinched the National League division that night & were on their way to the World Series. Our baby is now 19 & he has been watching you since he was about 2 years old. Our family has enjoyed watching you and watching you defend your players. I wish my son had a coach like you when he was playing baseball. What a different a great coach can make! I believe that the Braves are losing a tremendous asset and your shoes will be hard to fill. Enjoy your retirement and give us fans an occasional thrill by showing up at the ballpark! You will be missed! The Sigwald Family

    Dear Bobby Cox,
I had the pleasure of meeting you last week. Words cannot describe how special you made me feel. You will be missed but never forgotten. You are truly an icon to Baseball. The day you are inducted into the Hall of Fame, your TRUE fans will be there! I have been a Braves fan since I was a child. Thank you for doing what you have done!

    You will truly be missed.

Integrity is something few men have but I believe you have been more than blessed with that quality. I married a man who has been an avid Braves fan all of his life and he took me to my first major league game. I was hooked on your Atlanta Braves and after watching you work I was hooked on you too!!! We will be sad not hearing your voice ring out for every player at bat and running out of the dugout when they’ve been wronged. Thank you for all the years of dedication to your profession, you are a true baseball genius. Thank you for the memories. The Gooch Family

I have seen pictures of my parents holding me as a 2 month old, waving my arm doing the tomahawk chop while watching the 1991 World Series. I grew up as a boy, only knowing Braves dominance. Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, and Jones were all I ever knew. All this has changed, and now you, Bobby Cox, are the last to go (pending Chipper’s knee). I have vague memories of the 1995 World Series. Win another one for us, Bobby.

  11. binkiesue8@yahoo.com

Hope you have a happy retirement. we have enjoyed watching the braves and have been there many times. we have been braves fans since 1991. enjoy doing other things you like to do.

    Mr Cox,
Thank you for all your hard years of dedication, leadership, motivation, and inspirational coaching! As much as you mean to the Braves, you’ll never know how much you have meant to us (the fans) too! Lets go out w/ a bang & beat the Padres for the wild card! See you this weekend for the final league series against the damn Phillies!

Bobby, you have been managing the Braves since before I was born, and so I can truly say that I cannot remember a time when you weren’t in that bullpen. I’ve grown up a Braves fan and I will be a Braves fan till the day that I die, but it will not be the same without you. It’s not easy to find a manager like you. Numbers aside, you care about and fight for your players in a way that can never be replicated. I think I can speak for most fans when I say that it’s with a sad heart and a fear for next season that we send you off. Thank you for your 29 years of dedication, your retirement is well deserved by now.

    Bobby,

Thanks for everything. Thanks for managing this franchise, and bringing the fans so much joy and success for so long. Living in California, I was drawn to the class of the Braves organization, thanks in large part to you. You’ve helped keep this team honorable, talented, and stable. The Braves were the only thing that got me through school days so I could come home and watch at 4pm Pacific.

    You will truly be missed.

Thanks for all the memories. I can remember watching the Atlanta Braves with my dad when I was growing up. My dad always talked about you being a great coach. As I grew up I was able to experience that for myself. Since I was old enough to enjoy the game you were the only coach I ever knew the Braves to have. It will not be the same watching them without you standing there in the dugout. Thanks again Bobby Cox.

  18. chevyjhm@gmail.com

I just have to say Thank you for all you have done with the Braves in the past years. You will truly be missed but never forgotten. It won’t be the same without you. I wish you the best in your retirement. May God Bless You Always.

Thank you Bobby. We will be there at the game on Saturday..With standing room only fans. That right there tells you how much the fans appreciate you. I am a new Braves fan and I don’t miss a game. So sorry to see you retire. But enjoy you so deserve it.

Bobby, in all the 44 years of being a Braves Fan, the ones you have given to the fans were some of the best. I hope you got the book that I sent to you (via mutual friend Rooster). Even though it is a true story of my Mama’s amazing life… The Braves are mentioned several times; they were my favorite team too. I pray God bless you and your family with much happiness and maybe a little rest too. You will forever be in the heart of this Braves fan. My Best to you.

I have been a Braves fan since I was 8 years old and saw my first game in Fulton County in 1988. However, I don’t really know the Braves as having anyone manage other than Bobby, and it will be very strange watching the games and not hearing him call out to the players with all the nicknames.

I am gonna miss you, the Braves will miss you, and Major League Baseball and it’s fan will miss you. Whoever takes over the role as manager for the Braves has the biggest shoes to fill ever.

    Bobby,
Thanks for giving the Atlanta Braves your life. We all know baseball is your life and I am very glad you gave it to the Braves. You have been manager for the Braves as long as I have been alive. It’s going to be very hard to see someone else coming out to the mound to talk it over with the pitcher. You have been an amazing coach, and we are going to miss you! Thank you so much for the countless hours you put in to our organization, and who could forget 1995. I was only three years old, but I will never forget it. Thanks again Bobby for everything. #6 will be remember for ever. Thanks Bobby! GO BRAVES!

Bobby, I’ve been a fan since i was about 10 yrs old. I couldn’t tell you the number of games Ive watched on tv thru the years. I even took my mom to see you play in atlanta 2 yrs ago for her birthday. Not seeing you in the dugout next year is going to be sad. But once a braves fan always a braves fan. Ive stood behind you guys thru the bad years and all the good years. Watched my first world series when the braves won. It was a great experience. I wish you the best of luck and hope that your enjoy your time away from the Great American Ballpark. I grew up an Atlanta Braves fan. I only known Bobby Cox as the only manager for the Braves. It will not be the same with out Bobby Cox next season. I have been a fan since I was 8 years old starting in the early 90’s when the Dynasty begun. Thanks for all the years of service to this team and I’ll miss you next season. Hopefully the Braves can get to the postseason!

  26. prevityj@pffcu.org

Bobby Cox was a good manager, but he won 14 straight division championships and O-N-E World Series. During those years, he could have one maybe 7 World Series. His players loved him. He had a great pitching staff. The starting rotation was lights out when called upon. Smoltz, Maddux, Glavin and I can’t remember the 4th starter. So good luck Bobby in your retirement.

  27. art.hansen@comcast.net

    Hey Bobby
Thanks for the memories of great teams and players like Glavin, Smoltzie and Maddog as well as Chipper and now McCann and Heyward etc. Thank you so much. You have done the job and we will always remember, buddy.

    Bobby,
You have brought so many great memories to the city of Atlanta! I was a teenager when we went from worse to first and have grown up watching the team you lead be a dominate force in the National League. Thanks for being the steady hand on the wheel for all these years and when you make it into Cooperstown, I hope i will be there.

    Bobby,

I moved here to Georgia from Michigan when I was 13, loving my Detroit Tigers but soon later it became the Atlanta Braves. It’s now been 24 yrs with watching the Braves and you as manager. I’m so sad that your leaving, but as the saying goes “all good things must come to an end” The Braves won’t be the same without you. You have been the best manager I think Atlanta has ever seen. I’m sure gonna miss you. Thanks for all the memories you have given me. I wish you nothing but the best in your retirement. Love you, #6 Bobby Cox & the Braves.

Just like when Skip Caray passed away or John Smoltz got traded the Braves must change sooner or later. The change saddens me but I am honored to have created memories with my grandfather and family over the years with the help of Bobby Cox. I will never forget the way you have stood up for your players NO MATTER WHAT. You are the greatest manager to every put on a uniform. It will never be the same without you

  33. adamdortch@aol.com

Bobby I would just like to say Thankyou for every thing you have donr for the Braves and the City of Atlanta. 34. cbmaness@yahoo.com

    Bobby,

First and foremost, thank you for your dedication to the sport of baseball. You are truly a class act and a modern day pioneer of everything that is right about professional sports. From the numerous games I’ve admired you on tv to the games I’ve been lucky enough to attend in person, I’m truly grateful that the Braves are the only team I’ve followed since I was 10 years old back in1990. You are the greatest manager I’ve ever known and you’ll always hold that spot in my baseball memories. Thanks for all thy you’ve done – you are a true gentleman and a true baseball icon!

  35. pacman9124@hotmail.com

    Dear Bobby,

I have watched the Braves for as long as I can remember. Through the ups and downs, you still managed to make me proud to be part of Braves Country. Escpecially this yeah, I watch every pitch whether we are up by 5 or down by 10, knowing that we can always win in the last at bat . The braves have been in integral part of my life, and you have been like part of the family. I dont know what it will be like watching the boys next year, but I know Ill truly miss seeing you out there. You ARE the greatest manager in baseball, and you will always be part of the Clayton family

Lets make your last game a World Series Championship clinching one!

    GO BRAVES !

  36. 1233321

Thanks for all the memories! I’m from Richmond so I’ve been a big fan of the entire Braves organization since I was about 6 years old. I’m 29 now and I still pay attention every day. Thanks for everything!

  37. bubba1

Bobby, you have no idea what an influence you have had on my life. I am 17 years old, but I’ve been watching Braves games since I was in a crib. You and your Braves teams have given meaning to my summers. I always went to my grandma’s house to watch games on TBS and hear Carey, Sutton, Wieren, and Simpson call them. When she died in 2006, it was the first year since 1990 that you didn’t make the playoffs, and I don’t believe that was a coincidence. But this year is different. You’ve shown why you are one of the best managers in history and I pray the Braves send you out on top. You are irreplaceable as the face of this organization, and know you will be missed in the dugout. All the wins, ejections, decisions, etc.. will be memories forever etched in my head. I wish I could be in Atlanta this week, but unfortunately I can’t. But know I will be supporting you from my home and will wait to see what happens in the playoffs.

  38. myrup_kg_21@hotmail.com

I can’t even imagine watching a Braves game without knowing you are out there leading our team. I have enjoyed being a fan of you and the Braves. I will always have a huge passion for the game of baseball, and a big reason is because of you. It was easy to love and support my team, because I could see how much you loved and supported each and every player you coached. I can see how much love and respect you have for the game, and I wish more could do it the right way. You will be greatly missed. Thank you so much for all your years of hard work. Good luck with whatever is next for you.

I was born and raised a braves fan and the first brave that i can ever remember my grandfather telling me about was “the great bobby cox” and how much better the braves were going to be with him at the helm and almost 30 years later here we are. You are the greatest manager the braves have ever had even going all the way back to boston, and i am glad i had the honor to meet you once. the game wont be the same without you! god bless you and thank you for everything!

Mr. Cox, you are truly a class act! I have so enjoyed watching you and the teams you haved “skippered” over the years and I will miss seeing you in the dugout. I thank you for your time and energy and making baseball exciting to watch and follow. Being from West Tennessee, I don’t get to as many games as I would like, but i do manage a couple of series and a spring training here and there. I am a Braves fan to the core and it will not be the same with out you. I feel you and the team are like family as we do catch most every game on TV. Although I don’t think you will leave the game completely, I hope you and your family enjoy some much needed time together.

    God bless and Thank you!

    Dear Bobby,

Never mind any detractors…your superb record speaks for itself.

Please consider this — you have an excellent voice, immense knowledge, and I would love to hear you again next season as an announcer or color commentator.

It would break our hearts if you said “Goodbye!” to baseball altogether.

Again, please consider a position as a sports announcer or commentator of some kind.

I was a Braves fan even in the rotten years. It is easy to be a fan and actually feel part of the team from the announcers right to Bobby. He will truly be missed and it is hard to imagine the team with another manager. It will be an adjustment for of us as fans to see someone else argue with the umpires and get tossed. I will always be a Braves fan but it won’t be the same without Bobby.

Best of Luck in your retirement

    Bobby,
I have been a braves fan since the Braves came to Atlanta. I have watched every game on tv. My husband became a baseball widower when the season began. I turned him into a fan a year before he died last year. You will be greatly missed. I did not get to attend many live games since I do not live close to Atlanta, but the ones I did get to see mean the world to me. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. You are truly the greatest manager. You will be missed very much.I hope you and your family will have a fantastic retirement.

    Bobby,
As a little kid growing up during the 90’s watching all those games on TBS, besides seeing Chipper, Maddux, Glavine, or Smoltz, one of my favorite seens every day was seeing or hearing you in the dugout always cheering the players on. I am still always glad to say I will never have seen the Braves lose in Atlanta with Bobby Cox as the manager! 14-0! Thank you Bobby for all the great years!

Our family has been Atlanta Braves fan for 32 years. Whiile we have never had the opportunity to see them play live, we never miss a televised broadcast.

Through the good years and not so good years, my three children have become Braves fans. Bobby Cox is a shining example of how the game should be played. He manages his players with dignity and respect and it shows in the way the players conduct themselves both on and off the field.

Our family wishes you the best in your semi-retirement, good luck fishing.

    Bobby,
You and I are about the same age. I’ll catch up again on 10/17. My middle son shares that birthday with me. All my boys (God has blessed me with 3), my wife and I have watched as you have guided the Braves and worked within the organization to create a history that will be unparalleled in all of sports performance.

The things that have stood out above the numbers are your steady hand on the helm, your fire to defend the players and the club and the class and good humor you have managed to maintain even through the times that had to be most disappointing and personally hurtful to you.

Thanks for your example and for giving us all a truly great opportunity to share the blessing that your career has been.

Best regards and warmest wishes whatever path you take now!

    Mr. Cox,
I’ve been a Braves fan for 34 years (and counting). You are the greatest manager in the history of this franchise. I want to say THANK YOU for bringing respect and admiration to the major league team that I love the most.
I hope your retirement brings good health, happiness and a strong sense of knowing that you gave it your all…and that some of the fans really appreciate that.
I’ll be there on Saturday to bid you a fond farewell. As the old song goes: “Happy Trails to you…until we meet again.”

  52. tomwinstead@gmail.com

Bobby, I’m a lifelong Braves fan, and lived in Atlanta during some very exciting times in the early and mid-nineties. I attended a bunch of NLCS and WS games that I’ll never forget. In 1993 I took my 5 year old nephew to his very first Braves game. He played little league all thru school, and in 4th grade wrote in his “what I am going to be when I grow up essay” that he would play for Bobby Cox and the Atlanta Braves. The teacher told him to re-write it and make it ‘realistic’, and he refused. You know him. His name is Craig Kimbrel.

Seeing him fulfill his childhood dream, and especially to get to play for you has been one of the greatest things I’ve ever experienced in my life.

I cannot thank you enough for your years with the Braves. You will be missed! Enjoy your retirement!

    Tom Winstead

Thank you Bobby for the many wonderful memories. We have followed the Braves since TBS came to satellite tv many years ago. We’ve enjoyed when you come to California so we can attend the games and see you.

Bobby….My best Braves memory is when my Mom, who is now deceased, and me flew up to Cleveland (her old hometown) to attend Game 5 of the 1995 World Series….unfortunately, we lost that game, but Game 6 was the next day in Atlanta….we boarded an airplane and flew from Cleveland to Atlanta and went right to the stadium to cheer on our Braves!!! As you know, we won that game, 1-0, behind the bat of David Justice!! My mom screamed so much and so loud that she lost her voice for a few days!! It was a magical time — mother and daughter going to 2 games together in 2 different cities and being together to celebrate a first-ever sports championship in Atlanta….I’m sure my Mom is looking down from heaven and smiling as you wind down your career — and is hoping we’re back in the post-season!! I will be in the stands on Sat., Oct. 2, with my 13-year-old son, to show appreciation for your leadership over these years — he is a huge Braves fan like his Grandmother!! Thanks for the memories, Bobby….I wish you well!! Donna

Hey bobby thanks for being an inspiration to many generations of children. Its great having a great ball club to rally around with friends, family and even strangers. Its tough to put into words the great experiences I have shared with my dad, brothers and friends. Its been a great season to follow and its been great following the braves my whole life. My mom still talks about staying up with me as a baby watching sid slide into home.

  56. thebigboy63

    Mr. Cox,
I feel so lucky that i grew up being a fan of the team that you managed for the past 2 decades. Everyone sees you got your players back, from Marquis Grissom to Martin Prado you aways stuck up for anyone in a Braves uniform. In a league that juggles managers around frequently you stuck around for the long term and won 14 straight division titles and a World Series Championship in ’95. You brought your passion and love for the game to the ballpark everyday and more often than not led the Braves to a victory. Its sad youre leaving and the Braves wont be the same without you, but i just wanted to personally thank you for all youve done for the organization. You’ll be missed and never forgotten for youve changed the organization forever. Everyone knows the Braves are Bobby’s team even if youre not in the dugout. Thanks again Bobby and best of luck in your retirement you deserve it. Good luck and God Bless.

    Bobby,
It’s going to be heartbreaking to look in the dugout next season and not see you.I had the pleasure of meeting you and Mr Schuerholtz(probably mispelled)several years ago when you came into Charlotte.I was the Avis girl who rented a car to you guys and had my picture taken. That was the biggest thrill of my life.My parents and I have been braves fans for 40years.Unfortunately my dad passed away the season you won the world series.I always said he was in the dugout with you guys in 95.Thank you so much for giving so much of yourself to the team and your fans.If I could see you I would give you a big hug.God bless you and you will never be forgotten.I was able to attend the game Sept 10against St Louis…Thank you my friend…Vickie Bryant.Gastonia,NC.

    Bobby,
Growing up in South Texas we did not have access to any baseball teams that you would expect (ie Astros & Rangers), with TBS we got a chance to watch the Braves day in and day out. I remember me and my grandpa gathering around the tv watching the games on the weekdays and on Sunday afternoons. My grandfather passed a few years ago shortly after Christmas, but we would still watch what little Braves games we could find and talk about how you were still coaching. Im sure he still watches from above and its not going to be the same watching the Braves without you.
Take care and thanks for the memories.

Man what a sad day it will be when you manage your last game. Thank you Bobby for all of the great memories and most of all thank you for what you did for Braves baseball. I have been a fan since 1990 and will be till I leave this earth. You are, in my opinion, the greatest manager of all time and you will be sadly missed. Good luck and Best wishes. And let’s win you a world series so you can go out in style.

    Hello Bobby,

I have been a Braves fan for 27 years since I was 5 and can remember my Dad and brothers cheering for the Atlanta Braves. What a great manager you have been for our team. I love how you coach with such passion and how you stick up for your guys and not afraid to get ejected lots of times and to hear you cheer on your players when they are at bat from the dugout “Come on Frenchy!!”, “Come on Boogy!!”, “Come on Chip!” It was awesome to see how respected you were from all the other clubs around the league giving you parting gifts/retirement gifts.

Thank you for being such a great manager. May you enjoy your retirement and Go Braves!!

  61. blueflash42@yahoo.com

Bobby, Just wanted to say that I have enjoyed the Braves through the good times and the bad. Things will not be the same without you. Never got to see them in person, but never miss a televised game. Good luck to you and your wife with your retirement. I will miss your smiling face and the way you took one for the team every now and then, don’t think your replacement will be able to do that quite like you.

    Bobby,
I have been a Braves fan since 1991. I was 6 years old at the time. I was born and raised in California but thanks to TBS, I was able to watch you boys play all the time. From the days of Maddux, Smoltze, Glavine and Avery to now with Heyward and BMac. In 2005, I was lucky enough to take a vacation to Atlanta to spend a week watching you coach. I was in the stands the days when Frenchie and BMac made their major league debuts!!! One of the best moments of my life!!! I am going to miss being able to hear you from the duggout cheering on all your players while they are up to bat. It definetly will not be the same without you, but I will keep watching because thanks to you, I will be a Braves fan forever!!! Best of luck to you with your retirement!!!!! You will definetly be missed!!!

    Dear Booby ,
I, as a kid really enjoyed you. I’ve only liked baseball since last year when my dad showed me a few games of the 2009 world series. I am very happy i was able to know baseball and like it. Braves have really impressed me this season and i am hoping for them to go to th division, championships, and world series. 🙂 Even one year has really impressed me of how good a manager you were. I’ve never missed a single game (or atleast the scores) of the season. Every game was like watching a really good movie. Thank you so much Booby for all you’ve done for the Braves and for the Braves country 🙂
    Sincerely, to Bobby
    From Braves Fan

bobby..thx for the memories…i am so excited about being there sunday ,,,wish i could saturday, but not possible. my mother is 90 years old and got me started watching and listening on the radio to the braves…she also has the folks out at The Oaks/(retirement and nursing facility/o’burg sc ) enjoying the games.the braves have been a grand conversation piece around our kitchen table for many years. we do not get to many games. could not let another year pass without coming/wish we could bring mama/since could not, i did not want to miss your last regular season game! I am broken hearted that prado is so badly hurt. i hope that he and chipper can go to the postseason games by way of appointing them co-coaches.. seems you have to cut the team down, i was not very sure how that worked…they deserve to be there. Glauss saved alot of weeks too, when no one was hitting. its been a strange season–made it interesting ’cause look where we are now.

    Hi Bobby,

Thanks for the way you handled your players all these years. It’s a tribute that you never put any player down no matter how bad of a game they had. Also, no current or ex player ever has any bad words for you. Always a cheerleader from the dugout which is just great. I love the way you’ve always stood up for your players. Baseball has become a business but you personify the good old days of baseball. I’m the same age as you so I guess you want to slow down a little but I’m sure you’ll be around the Braves. Happy semi-retirement!

  70. ms04483@georgiasouthern.edu

    Bobby,

You have been a blessing to the city of Atlanta, and also to the game of baseball. The wins, titles, and accomplishments will forever go on and will remain unmatched. You have set a precedence among baseball and will forever be respected because of it. Words cannot describe the amazing things you have done for Braves country of the past three decades. I’ll be there on Saturday cheering you on, but sad to see you go. Best of luck in the postseason, and beyond. Can’t wait to see your place in Cooperstown! You’re the best there ever will be, hands down. Thanks again Bobby, and may God bless you.

Mr. Cox, thank you for years and years of great baseball. I have followed Chipper from nearby Pierson, loved the Glavine, Smoltz, and Maddux years, and have seen you at spring training at Disney every year. We hate to see you go but we enjoyed it immensely. Thought they were gonna have to eject you for you to leave! LOL! Take care.

Bobby, Thanks for all the memories you have created for me. I’ve been a braves fan since 1966 when the braves came to atlanta. Since 1991 when you and the braves started this great run of division titles and pennants. You have made being a braves fan fun. I hope the braves can continue that sucess next year when your not in the dugout…I will miss you not being manager of the Braves, Good luck in your retirement..

    Dear Mr. Cox,

I live in Germany and became a Braves fan in 1996, when I stayed in Georgia for a while at my former exchange family. When I was an exchange student 3 years before, they hosted me near Cleveland so we went to see Tribe games, but in ’96 during a series vs. the Astros, your Braves team really impressed me. I gladly think back to the ‘golden ninetees’ with Pendleton, Justice, Glavine and so on. Now, with Chipper and you still there, Braves games remind me of my time in the States – good memories, and often good baseball, too!

I wish you a perfect carrer end, I’m sure you can lead the boys to the postseason. No matter how far we’ll make it – you are a great person and true representative of the game we all love so much, thank you for so many great games. Hope you stay healthy and can enjoy lots of years together with your loved ones!!!

Good luck, warm greetings from Germany,
    Oliver

    Go Braves!!

    Dear Bobby,

Thank you for a lifetime of baseball. I have only ever known the Braves with Bobby Cox, and even though you retire, you will always be there. I wish you health and happiness for the future and I know there will ALWAYS be a seat in the Atlanta dugout with your name on it.

Thank you for many great years of baseball.
My favorite memory is of my grandaughter Stephanie at age three. She was a friend of your grandaughter Kayley, and one night when we were waiting a game we were saying something about about Bobby Cox, and Stephanie stood up and said ‘that is not Bobby Cox it is Kayley’s grandpa.” To this day we are all Braves fans, and Stephanie is one of your bigest fans.

I’m 33 years old Bobby, and been a Brave since birth. You are the only manager I’ve ever known, and the only one I care to know honestly. I can only pray that the manager that takes your place is half the man you are. You’ve given us so many wonderful years, and I hope that you have many more great ones ahead to enjoy your life…you’ve earned it! Thanks again Bobby; you will always be loved, and sorely missed!

Bobby, you are an ICON. I have been watching Braves baseball since I was probably about 7 years old. I’m not 42, and have only grown more fond of America’s Team as I’ve grown. I love watching you, and my team. I got my son watching the Braves. He is now 22 and a big fan too. Have my 3 year old daughter rooting for the team. You are a hell of a man, and fight for what is right. You are there for the players as well as for your fans. I just went to Washington, DC on Sept 25 to watch you in one of your final games. And we won. I got a couple of great pics of you. I wish you only the best in your retirement. You will be greatly missed. YOU ARE THE GREATEST.
    Love,

Four generations of our family are Atlanta Braves fans (since 1966) and we love and admire you Mr. Cox. In a world of 15 minutes of fame, you are a refreshing sports hero. Your accomplishments are what the Hall of Fame is all about.

Bobby, you’re a man’s man that transcends baseball. Class is the world that immediately comes to mind. For all the lives in baseball (players, staff, fans, etc) you’ve touched and your charity endeavors, we appreciate you.

We know you’re not really retiring completely, but enjoy the slower pace with your loved ones. I’m sure you will not be far from the Braves family, but in a capacity that will allow you to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle.

I have watched the Braves for a long time but became a real hardcore fan around 1998. My son started playing baseball when he was about 4 1/2. He watched the Braves & at a really young age could impress people by knowing players stats & his knowledge of the game. He is still playing baseball it’s just high school & select ball. It has been something we have shared & watched together over the years. He finds it funny that his mom knows baseball better than most. Thanks for the memories & dedication to your players & fans.

We will miiss you as you have been the best manager in all of baseball. I am rooting for the Braves to make the playoffs. GO BRAVES!

You represent what this team is about and hopefully will continue to be about for years to come- class and professionalism. I will be watching today from my home in PA, hopefully as the Braves clinch another playoff spot! The 1995 World Series was incredible, and I hope you get to experience that again this year. Although I’m a Yankees fan, I always liked watching Bobby’s Braves, especially when they were shown on TBS Superstation nationwide coverage.

Bobby’s one of the greatest managers that baseball’s had, and we’re all lucky to have seen him. Where others have come and gone, Booby has remained a steady presence leading the Braves for the past 25 years, and numbers alone don’t tell the whole story.

He will definitely be missed, and it’s gonna be strange to watch the Braves on TV and not see him in the dugout…

Oh, and by the way, anyone else think that the umpires are reeeeeally gonna miss him?? 🙂

    Thanks for the memories Bobby!!

Your talent, heart, commitment to the game is like no other. No one will ever be able to fill the number 6 or the shoes of Bobby Cox not only to Braves fans but to fans of the sport of baseball.

I am only 18 years old and I have been a Braves fan since I was just a little kid. Your the only Braves manager Ive know in my lifetime. Your a great guy, I adore you deeply, and I am really thankful for the things you have done for the Braves Organization and for fans like me all over the country. I want nothing more than for the Braves to get the job done today and tomorrow, and give you the ultimate swan song with a world series championship because you deserve it. I wish you well on your retirement, and congratulations on a wonderful career. Go Braves!

Thanks for the memories, Bobby. You are the only Braves manager I have ever known. and it’s been a great ride. Best wishes on your semi-retirement, and I hope to see the Braves go far in the postseason for you. Many thanks for your years of loyalty to the organization.

  97. milligan00

I’m young enough that I can’t really remember anyone else managing the Braves. It’s going to be strange next year without you. You’ll definitely be missed! Will miss hearing you hollering encouraging things to the Braves hitters at the plate the most. I’ve always been curious to see what new Braves’ nicknames would be! 🙂 I hope you enjoy your retirement; it’s certainly well deserved. I just can’t imagine next year’s team without you! 😦 At least Chipper will be back for one more. Thanks for everything that you’ve done for the Braves and all of baseball!

  98. bravesrachel14

I began watching Bobby and the Braves in 1990 when I was 11. His dedication to the sport he loves and the players he manages is unparalleled. For all 158 times he has been ejected and many more times, he has defended his players to keep them from being ejected. Each night, you can hear him cheering his players on; even when the Braves are being crushed by the opponent. I met Bobby in 2000 while working as a freelance journalist and I can honestly say, he is the nicest person I have ever met in baseball. I cried when I learned Bobby would be retiring after this season and will cry again when his legendary career in baseball comes to an end. Bobby, we love you so much and have been honored to call you our manager all these wonderful years. Thanks Bobby!

  99. jhamber1@tampabay.rr.com

    Dear COXY
First I would like to say thank you or all the memories! I have been a Braves fan since 1987 I was 10 years I think we finished in last place for six straight years before you went back in the dugout. There has been many games that have brought so much excitement to my life, like the Sid Bream slide. I think you have one of the greatest managers all time. You are one of the few people that I’ve never heard anybody have a negative comment about. The dugout will never be the same without good ole #6. Another thing I think was world class was getting Boscan in the game last. Thanks again Bobby.
    Have a Fond Farewell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Jesse Braves FAN for life

Thanks Bobby, I’ve grown up rooting for the Braves and you especially. Trust me when I tell you thats not an easy thing to go through when you live in Pennsylvania. Baseball has always been a big part of my life and watching the Braves for the last 20 years has been special. Enjoy your retirement. Baseball and the Braves will never be the same. Hopefully we make the playoffs and postpone your retirement for another 3 weeks or so.

  101. raysxluver

I?ve been a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, and love them to death. Bobby Cox is a big reason why. When I think Braves, there are so many thoughts that come to me, but Bobby Cox may be the first thing that pops into my head, and to know he won?t be in the dugout next year is heartbreaking. I was born in ?95 (WS CHAMPS BABY!) and have loved the Braves and Bobby ever since(: The thing that I will remember most about Bobby is his loyalty to his players. I bought the Bobby Cox commemorative program earlier this season, and that was what the Braves players appreciated most. Bobby is out there arguing for his players no matter what the score, what the situation, or anything like that, he will always be there for them. I?m sure that nothing means more to those players. Next Braves manager has some big shoes to fill, and I?m fairly certain they never will be(: Bobby Cox is the best manager in baseball, and I can?t wait to see (and hopefully be there) when he gets inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame! Bobby, you are very much loved and come next year will be terribly missed in Atlanta! Congratulations on a great career!

    Mr. Cox,
I have watched you and the Braves and been a huge fan ever since I was old enough to understand the game of baseball. Being 21 years old now, you have coached the Braves for longer than I have been alive. It is going to be hard seeing the Braves being managed by anyone else. You have been an outstanding leader to not only the Braves and baseball but also to me, my family, and everyone that got a chance to follow you and your illustrious career. Thank you for everything.

    Bobby,
Thank you so much for your service to the Atlanta Braves. I remember when I was little I would turn on the TV to tune to TBS to watch the Braves clinch another national league title under your leadership. The Braves have been a part of my life for 20 years and I will never let them go. It is defiantly going to be weird turning on the TV and not seeing you in the dugout with your spikes yelling at the umpires. You are my favorite manager and words can’t describe what you have meant to me and all of my fellow Braves fans. It is because of you I am pursuing my dreams of working for major league baseball in the very near future. I wish you the best in your retirement. Thank you for the memories!

    Dearest Bobby,

I’ve been a Braves fan since 1967 when I was 7 years old… and that’s thru some lean years and some great years… but to be a true fan, you have to ride the roller coaster and experience it all, and not regret it. And I don’t regret a second from that time to this time, and most of it was spent with the Braves being under the leadership of Bobby Cox in one way or another.

We will never see another manager like Bobby Cox in Atlanta, or anywhere else for that matter. Those that know him best, and personally, attest time after time about this man’s knowledge of baseball and more importantly about his way of making everyone in the organization, from ushers to All Stars, feel like they are a vital part of the success that the team has enjoyed. He gives all the praise to others in winning, and puts all the blame for the losses on himself… it takes quite a man to do that. In the years to come, all of us Braves fans will realize more each season what we had in Bobby Cox all of these years. From the time Bobby returned to Atlanta as GM until today, the one constant piece of the entire successful puzzle is Bobby Cox… not any one player, front office person or owner… only Bobby Cox.

It’s sad to see it end, but for everything there is a season, and now it’s time for you to enjoy more of life, more of your family and more of doing what you want to do.

Mr. Cox, you’ve well earned your retirement, and myself and my family wish you and your deserving family nothing but the very best, and many, many abundant blessings in all you do… and a special thanks to Mrs. Pam Cox for sharing your wonderful partner with all of us Braves fans for all of these great years.

Light up a cigar for yourself… you deserve it!

    Dear Bobby,
I just wanted to try to express how much you and the Braves mean to me and my life. Im 23, and you are the only Braves manager that I know. Terry was my favorite, then Justice and Smoltz, but you will always be the face of my Braves. I love hearing you on tv hollering for your players and cheering them on. You can truely tell your love of the game no matter the score of the game you are always in it to win it. I will be sad when it sinks in that the ole number 6 won’t be in the dugout, but I hope you enjoy your retirement. I can imagine you and Larry Dobbs spending a lot of time together. Thanks for everything and you will never know how much you have meant to all of us Braves fans.

I will miss you not being in the dugout next season. It will not be the same.Winning 14 straight division titles in the way and fashion that you had done with the Braves is no easy task. You took a team so hard pressed many years back into a legitimate winner far beyond this fan’s imagination, and I will never forget that. You are so loved by your fans and there will not be another manager that could ever fill your shoes. My nephew Justin and I will continue to keep coming to Turner Field every year all because you made it possible for us to realize what winning is all about. We wish you well and God Bless you in all that you do

Thanks for all you did for baseball and especially Braves Nation. It was a blast to watch you manage. I have been a Braves fan since I was 7 years old in 1991. I had the pleasure of watching 14 straight division titles on TBS! I also enjoyed the many ejections that often sparked your team. Thanks again!!

    Bobby,

Thanks for all the memories. It’s been a privilege to have you at the helm of the Braves. Best wishes to you and your family and enjoy your retirement, but be sure to come to some of the games from time to time, or be an announcer for the Braves.

Thank you Bobby Cox….IMO you are the best of the best…..you will be missed. Enjoy your retirement….may you have many years left to enjoy.

    Bobby,

Thanks for turning baseball around in Atlanta, first as a GM and then as a manager. You are a legend. God bless.

    Mr. Cox,

As a long time Atlanta Braves fan, I find it necessary to bid my personal farewell to you. As the skipper of your Atlanta Braves, you helped to build a dynasty that will never be forgotten. Your style of managing is like none other. You allowed the players to develop themselves, giving them your advise from your own experiences. You have set a bar for veteran managers already in the league, as well as future managers.

I have a 6 month old son that I can’t wait to be able to tell him all about the Gregg Maddux, John Smoltz, Tommy Glavine and Chipper Jones era that was managed by the greatest manager of all time. The stories I have for him I hope will keep him intrigued for many years.

I wish you and your family all the best in the coming years. I hope that you have gotten back all that you gave to baseball.

    Yours truly,

    Don Angolano

    Congratulations Bobby Cox!
I became an Atlanta Braves fan in 1967 and have followed the team ever since. You have given so much of yourself to baseball and especially to the Braves. You truly are a player’s manager and you deserve the very best in your retirement. Thank you for Mark Lemke, Otis Nixon, Fred McGriff, Andres Galarraga and Brian McCann. They are just a few of the many players who enticed me first to Fulton County stadium and more recently to Turner Field. I wish you a life filled with all the joy, love, laughter and excitement you have given to Braves fans for the last 25 years. You will be missed more than you know. Thank you for the memories Bobby!

The Braves community along with the entire mlb community will miss you Bobby. You were great for the sport and more importantly, you were great for Atlanta and all its fans. I’ve been a Braves fan since I was 7. The past 15 years have been filled with ups and downs mostly ups.

Thanks Bobby, you are one of the greatest.

    Dear Bobby:

I’ve been a life long Dodger fan since the mid Fifties. I salute you for your incredible skills in developing both individual talents as well as forming an incredible team year after year. I love to “hate” the Braves–but I’m rooting hard for your World Series win in 2010. Retirement will be a challenge, but you’ve always risen to the challenge. Good luck in the playoffs and life.

Bobby, you are the greatest manager ever in my book, and what you’ve done for this ball club, this city and us fans cannot be described in words. I will never forget the worst-to-first season in 1991, when I was glued to my TV the entire month of October. There will never be another season like that. And of course, the World Championship in 1995 was the pinnacle and finally put Atlanta on the map as a winner. You are a class act, a gentleman, a wonderful ambassador for the game of baseball and definitely a player’s manager. I love the way you stick up for your guys, right or wrong (but you were right 99 percent of the time!). As a lifelong Braves fan, I want to thank you for what you’ve meant to me and my favorite team, and I’m going to miss you terribly. The dugout just won’t be the same without you in it. But before you officially start your retirement, I hope the Braves can add another World Series championship to your incredible resume. Good luck in the playoffs, and Happy Retirement!

Bobby, congratulations on the Braves’ wild card win!! And congratulations on having a great career in baseball. You are a credit to baseball and have exemplified what a true manager is – one who supports his players and expects and gets the best out of them. I will miss seeing you in the dugout and seeing you go toe-to-toe with the umpires. Enjoy your retirement; you deserve it. AND I hope to see my Braves win one more championship!!! My late mother was an avid Braves fan; I will be rooting for the Braves on her behalf, too.

  122. exchief80@comcast.net

Bobby I have been a Brave fan since 1956 and there have been alot of ups and downs, but your years there have been way more ups than downs. I sometimes wondered what you were thinking on some of your decisions and leaving pitchers in too long but in the long run you were right.
Best of luck in your retirement and thanks for your leadership of the Braves
    Retirement is a good thing

If there was ever a time I wanted to talk to a team it would be now. I would talk to these 2010 Braves and let them know that when they step out on the field Thursday night they are playing for Bobby. Give this man what he deserves.. A 2nd WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. I know they are beat up and injured but if playing for Bobby in his final year doesnt give them a spark then they are not human. Im 29 from Boston so naturally a red sox fan. However my grandfather also was a Boston Braves fan so I grew up watching the Braves through the 90’s on TBS.. When TBS actually played them all the time.. Now I have to drop 200 bucks for the package.. Anyway, GO BRAVES!!! THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!!

I just want to say thanks Bobby. I was a Braves fan before you went to the dugout from the office. Watching the Braves since you took over has been great. I want to thank you for 25 years of great Braves baseball. Good luck in your final post season and I hope you enjoy retirement.

Bobby the Great. I cant even begin to express in words how much i will miss you. I never thought things would be the same without Leo, Javy, Maddox or Dale Murphy. This definitely takes the cake. The Atlanta Braves runs deep in my blood. grew up watching you coach with my dad. Unfortunately married a METS fan. We have 3 boys and my husband dares to go there when it comes to whom they will chear for come baseball season. Ive had the great priveledge of watching a legend, coach a legendary baseball team. It breaks my heart to see you go but i wish you all the happiness in the world. I will miss the ejections and smiling as you fight for your team and yelling “Get em BOBBY!” At the tv. I will miss it all. It seems like its all coming to an end. But i guess its really a new beginning. I will have to let you go. Please tell Chipper to come back healthy because i couldnt take it if he didnt. Lets do it in the playoffs and drag this out as long as we can!!! No one could ever take your place, only the job.

I am a DIEHARD Braves fan from upstate NY. I have been since I was 9 years old, which was the Braves first world series appearance in 1991. My Great Grandfather was a Braves fan at first because it was the only game that was on in our area, but later because of the class and professionalism of the organization. He has since passed, but I continue to watch every single game on MLB Extra Innings each year. You could say that the reason we continued to watch and later LOVE the Braves is due to what Bobby brought to the organization. It was his (along with Schuerholz and others) class, and structure that allowed the Braves to be the dynasty of the 90’s and early 00’s that they were by bringing unbridled leadership to every level of the Braves organization. I want to say, thank you Bobby, for doing things the right way and making me proud to be a Braves fan. I brought my 14 year old brother to Atlanta (Both our first trips) this summer for a 3 game series in part to continue our family tradition of being Braves fans, but also so he and I could see a Bobby Cox led baseball team before you left. Thanks for all of the years of making my and my families summers that much more enjoyable…

  129. rjanep@bellsouth.net

Bobby Cox is a class act and certainly will be hard to follow. I have been a Braves fan since 1990. It is hard to imagine the Braves without Bobby Cox. I had never had an opportunity to attend a game until 1995 game six of the World Series. You can imagine what a thrill that was for me. Bobby, I am just sorry I never had an opportunity to meet you in person and thank you and the Braves for giving a senior citizen so much pleasure for so many years. I hope you enjoy your retirement and may God bless you and your family.

Bobby, you made me like the game of baseball, to become the most die hard fan the Braves have! I’ve been a Brave fan since the age of 6 (1980), watching a lot of Braves games on TV from my hometown in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. I still live in Mexico and have traveled so many times to see Bobby and the Braves play (in AZ and CA, never at Turner Field), it will be sad not to see Bobby managing the Braves again. I truly enjoyed all the moments, and will continue to see the Braves, knowing Bobby will still be there, no matter what.
Best of luck Bobby, and thanks for everything!

    BOBBY!!
You’re the only manager I’ve ever known with the Braves, I’m going to claim being a fan since 1989 (year I was born), so I’m just not sure what it’ll be like going to a game and not seeing you stomp out of the dugout (its one of my favorite parts.) I hope you have a great retirement, but I also hope you get a little bored so maybe you’ll read this. Just know if you ever need a friend to take with you to the Braves game when you want to visit, I’m your girl (but only if you promise to do the wave.)…
Thanks so much for your years!!

PS- would you consider staying with us one more season? Just thought I’d try. Ok bye.

    Bobby,
Congratulations on your retirement! What can I say that hasn’t already been said? You are the most genuine and gracious person that I’ve ever met. I don’t quite know what we will do without you but what an awesome career! We met years ago at your farm where you were hosting a benefit for the Humane Society. You have a big heart, not only for your players but for the community that has benefited from your grace. We are the lucky ones for having had you this long! You will be missed but will never be replaced. Good luck in the years ahead and may God watch over you and your family.

I used to be a Detroit Tiger fan back when I lived in Michigan, but now that I’ve been living in South Carolina since 1988, I am a true Braves fan. Hope you enjoy your cruise with Pam!

I fear that my words will not express the loss that I feel when I think of next year without your presence. I am going to miss your smile as you waved to the fans and your leadership in situations that required an ability to bring the team together for a common goal….winning the game.

    Bobby,
As with all the other comments left before mine, I too am a huge Brave fan (which started when I attended the very first game ever played in the Atlanta Statium against the Pirates, with a little know catcher named Joe Torre, amongst others.)
Even when the team was struggling I was a fan. and when we were going thru those 16 years when everything you and the front office touched turned into magic…what a fun time to be a Cox and Braves fan. Bobby, the city of Atlanta and MLB owe you a debit we can never repay.
So “Thanks for the Memories” Keep in touch… and see you in the Hall of Fame.

    Bobby,

I has been an honor and a pleasure having you serve as the Braves’ manager. Born and raised in Atlanta. I have been away for 30 years but I always kept up with the team each season. When I visited my parents in Atlanta, Dad would make sure we had tickets to a game which was the highlight of my trip, win or lose. You have made the Braves the team they are today. Mom and Dad are gone now but I know they are watching and doing the CHOP! Best wishes to you and your family.

I really dont know how to convay how much you’ve ment to me, my family, and this city. The best moment of my childhood came in 95 when you guys brought that trophy home to us. The players came and went but you were always at the helm. I’ve been a braves fan all my life an can honestly say seeing you retire is almost like watching my father walk of into the sunset for the last time. Enjoy your retirement, no one has earned it more than you. And when cooperstown calls, and your announcement is made i am gonna take a second trip up there just to see your plack. Hi Bobby,
I started watching the Braves as I was graduating from graduate school at Georgia Tech in the spring of 1991. Who would have known that would be the year you would lead the team from worst to first! I stayed up many, many nights to watch you and the Braves over the years and I still do! I loved your passion for baseball and the way you stood up for your players with the umpires! I will miss seeing you in the dugout and coming out on the field. You have given a lot to this organization and you have more than earned the right to live your life the way you want. Thank you giving me a great love for baseball! You will always be my favorite manager!!

Just want to say thank you for such a great run and thanks for the great memories!!!!

    Bobby,
I moved to Atlanta in the late 80’s. Ever since 1990 the year the Braves went from worse to first I have been an avid fan. I once got a note on Braves stationary from someone with the same last name, Littlefield. I have watched you work your magic with the team. You are clearly the number one manager in all of MLB. Good luck in your future. I hope to see you in the side lines or the dugout as a visitor. You will never be forgotten.
    Regards,
    Jerry Littlefield

    Bobby…..
It was when Ted Turner still owned the team and the games were broadcast every day into the Richmond, Va area that I developed interest in the Braves.
One of my sons lived in Atlanta and I made many trips to see the games.
Now, as you are phasing out your career I feel a sort of kinship with you. The docs told me recently they have done all they can for my bad heart. Thus at 84 I am in process of phasing out my own career, so to speak.
I wish you and your family peace and a long and happy life. You and the Braves pleasured me for many years. for which I thank you all.

I’ve been a fan since I was a little guy sitting in Fulton County Stadium in the 80s and have watched you take this team to great places year after year. Bobby, you’ve brought a lot of great memories to the city, but what’s more, you’ve shown thousands of young fans how to play the game the right way, how to treat others with respect, how to handle yourself when the cards are down. You’ve certainly given us lessons in sportsmanship, but you’ve also given us life lessons to live by. Thanks for all you’ve imparted. We’ll miss you greatly.

    Dear Mr. Cox:
My name is Barbara and I am 62 and have been a Braves fan for as long as I can remember. I use to laugh when i would watch a game and Ted and Jane would be in the stands eating all the time and at the time she had the fitness videos out which I owned every one of them. I thought when you got Chipper that was a great move cause at the time I was 27 and I thought he was cute. I loved Leo Mazzoni sitting there and rocking and of course Javier Lopez on the greatest catchers ever. I loved Brian McCann. He has so much heart. I want to thank you for so many great games and memories. In all the years I only got to go to one game and that was in 1996. The year after the world series and it was in August. I took my daughter Tammy for her 16th birthday and her wish was to get her ball signed by Chipper. That never happened but I did her on video tape with Javier Lopez and Andruw Jones hugging her and a sign that said Its my 16th birthday. What a day and we did win that game. You are a great human being and I do thank you for everything. I am sure there were a lot of tears in the dugout after the game but there were plenty of them in my house also. God Bless you in whatever you decide to do and I hope you have a say so in the new manager because of what you said about Lowe. If the new manager doesn’t support the players they will not have a good season.
God Bless you and your family. I love you and my Atlanta Braves.

We love you very very much. God Bless.

    Hi Bobby,

I’ve been watching you and the Braves since I was 4 back in 1989. The Braves were my tee-ball team, so of course I had to root for you even though I grew up in NJ (in the heart of Mets/Yankees territory). I took a lot of grief throughout the years, but stood by you and the Braves all the way. I ended up being a pretty successful baseball player (4 years CF in college). The first time I was ever able to make it to Turner Field for a game was this past April 17th….and Ubaldo Jimenez threw a no hitter. Go figure. It was an incredible memory though and Heyward had a walk-off the next day.

Thanks for all the great times (and tough ones, like the past few nights). Hope to see you around the team.

    Dear Mr Bobby Cox,

I’m an Angels fan but a baseball fan first and fore most. I have nothing but admiration and respect for you and your career. I was rooting very hard for your Braves and my heart dropped when it was all over tonight. That standing ovation from the fans and even the Giants really showed how much you were appreciated. Not to mention the tributes made around the country from various organizations. So I thank you as a baseball fan for all that you did. It’s a sad night throughout baseball. You will be missed. And the 2011 season won’t be the same without you.

I wish you the best of luck 🙂

Also, in my opinion your farewell season was the best Braves season since the mid 90’s. What a great ride. Congratulations to you and the whole team.

Thank you Bobby Cox for everything you have meant to the City of Atlanta, the Braves, the fans young & old, to gamesmanship and to the sport of baseball. I wish there was a way I could thank you in person, but nothing I could say or do will ever be enough of a thanks or enough of a show of the gratitude I have. You represent everything I love in baseball & life – loyalty, hard work, love & respect. I am proud of my Braves for making it this far & the credit goes to you Bobby. I knew this day would come, we have all been preparing for your retirement…….yet my heart is heavy today & eyes are filled to the brink, unable to contain the tears because today is the day that #6 proudly wore the Braves uniform for the last time. I don’t want to say goodbye, so I’ll just say I will miss you.

Thanks Mr. Cox for everything you have done for baseball. The Braves will not be the same without your leadership at the helm but I wish you a happy retirement.

Thank You Bobby for all the great memories that I will cherish with me for the rest of my life. I have watched you in Cincinnati, Detroit, Cleveland and St. Louis as well as on TBS. I have learned so much by watching the Braves on TV, that I appreciate the game even more than ever. It was great that you were the manager through all this. A class act and a great human being. I wish you the best of luck in your retirement. It will not be the same with out you. Thank You for the memories again. I look forward to you being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 5 years. Again THANK YOU BOBBY!!!!

Thank you Bobby for an incredible lifetime of memories for me. You’ve been the manager of the Braves since I was born, so you’re the only constant of the Braves for me. Thank you for all of the good times, the good laughs, and the good games. You’ve been a fatherly figure to me throughout the years, and your presence has always been in our household throughout the Spring & Summer. I hope to see you again on the field, and I hope you have a great retirement. You will always have a place in my heart and of the hearts of Braves Country. WE LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU’VE DONE FOR US.

    Bobby,
You are one of a kind and will go do as the greatest manager, teacher, mentor and advocate the the game of baseball has ever seen. I’ve been a Braves fan since 87′ and its just not gonna be the same without you in the dugout. A coach myself, I have learned many things by just watching how you manage the game, treat your players and handle yourself off the field. You are an inspiration to all. I wish you and your family the best in your retirement. One word comes to mind when I think about you “Classy”. Thanks for the memories…………………JO

I grew up watching the Braves on TV. Since I can remember, I’ve been a die-hard Braves fan. It didn’t matter if they lost or won, I was a fan. I didn’t want to believe it when I heard for the first time the #6 Bobby Cox was retiring. Bobby is the BEST manager any team could ask for, and the players, the fans and the City of Atlanta was blessed to have him as a part of the team. I can’t even imagine the Braves being managed by anyone other than the very own, Bobby Cox. Bobby, thanks for all you’ve done for this team, and making it such a memorable part of my life. You will be missed but you will always be the Manager of the Braves to me! Jersey #6 should be retired in your honor. Thank you Bobby! Good luck in the road ahead.

    Bobby,
I remember being a devastated 7 year old in Cleveland, Ohio in 1995 when the Braves won the World Series against the Indians… oh how times have changed! A couple of years later, my family moved to Atlanta, where I begrudgingly became a Braves fan after much internal conflict. 15 years later, I am a college graduate and a full-fledged and loyal Braves fan, and I am honored to say that I was able to witness your last game last night. Thank you for making this team what it is today- you are what I think of whenever the Braves are mentioned. You are the best manager in baseball, and we all will miss your enthusiasm and dedication. Have a wonderful retirement 🙂

Bobby, I have been a Braves Fan since 1968, when my Dad took me to a game in Atlanta when I was 8. From that point on I frequently listened to games on the radio (imagine that!) from my home in Tennessee before the Braves became, in my mind, the best programming on TBS. The next game I attended was not until 1991, when I took my oldest Stepson and watched Tom Glavine beat the Giants in Atlanta despite giving up two solo Home Runs to Kevin Bass. Ron Gant had the game-winning hit in a 3-2 Game. I have been frustrated many times since that 1991 season but my love and support of the Braves will be with me until I retire from life.

    THANK YOU BOBBY –

    GO BRAVES!

Thank you Bobby, for all your hard work. You are a shining example of what is good about sports. We will all miss seeing you in the dugout, and hearing your words of encouragement. Your impact on baseball will last forever, but it won’t be the same without you.
It’s a sad day for me. Not because the season is over but because Bobby Cox is no longer our skipper. I’m 32 and I feel like my childhood ended last night. Thanks for all the great memories!

Goodbye and Godspeed, Bobby. As a fan since 1972, I’ve had many, many happy times following the Braves and their downs and then ups under your leadership. Living in California since 1982, it’s been a long-distance affair, and when the amazing last-to-first move happened in 1991 I en joyed it from here on the West Coast. Last Friday night, I took my daughter to the game in SFO and, sitting among those rabid Giants’ fans, wearing my Braves shirt, we were thrilled with the comeback 5-4 win – what a night, and my first ever time to see you and the team in a playoff game! She and I will never forget it, and we thank you for the experience. Thanks, Bobby.

Longtime Dodger fan here. One of my wonderful memory of you Mr. Bobby Cox is Vin Scully interviewing you. It was like two old friends chatting. I still have the tape somewhere of some of those interviews that Vin Scully used to do. Good luck in your retirement. Thank you for the memories.

    Hi Bobby.
First at all, please forgive my english, it’s not my mother tongue. In 1991 i used to be an amateur soccer player in Barquisimeto Venezuela, i really didn’t care baseball at all. My first contact with baseball was in october of that year, in worls series against twins. I remember the passion which braves played, and inmediatelly became a Braves’ fan. I’ve been a great fan of Braves and you since. Thanks for all memories, especially for the 95′ World Series Championship.

My husband and I have been HUGE Braves our whole lives as we were raised by parents who were also Braves fans. If the Braves were playing we were watching or listening in the car. And even though things did not always go the way we wanted them to we would still tune in the next game and cheer on our Braves. So as the season ends it is hard to think of someone other than the great #6 sitting in the dugout rooting for his team to “take ball 4 kid”! We always wondered when a new player came to the team what name we would here you come up with to call him while at the plate. You managed and developed all your players into upstanding guys on and off the field and you will be greatly missed! So we bid you farewell and good luck. GO BRAVES!! WE LOVE OUR TEAM!!!!

Well i can not believe that the day has come. I have been a baseball fan since i could remember but I know the day that I turned a BRAVE fan. We were the laughable braves in the west at the time and I rmeber seeing Bobby in the dugout in the top step waiting for the outcome of the game. The demeanor the stature that you represented and then as the years went on the way you fought every pitch, every call that didnt go our way. The way you made your players feel as you argued when you knew that they could not. Every player wishes they could have played for you because they knew that you would stand by them through the good and the bad. I know you dont know me and its hard for you or anyone to belive that even though I had not met you I look up to you and respect the way you went about your job with class. I know there is respect due to the men that you battled against the Torre, LaRussa but you are a man among boys in my eyes. Enjoy your vacation Bobby as you have earned. Thank you and there will never be another Bobby..

    Dear Bobby,
Where do I start with the admiration I have for you and the Atlanta Braves. I have learned so much from you. I have an autistic daughter and from you I have learned to ‘let her be the pitcher on the hill’ and not run to her rescue at the first sign of difficulty. Your patience and endurance is something we all can learn from.

At the close of the 2005 season, I wrote a poem about you that I would like to share with you. I hope it sums up how Braves Country feels about you.

    The Darling of the Dugout
With 6 on his back and spikes on his feet,
He’s the manager in fact that no one can beat.

He has nicknames for all of his boys it seems,
Come on Fookie and Gillie, from the dugout he screams.

Turner Field is the place when the weather is warm,
Sporting the red, Sunday go to meeting uniforms.

With 14 straight titles under his belt,
The excitement for 15 is already felt.

He’s the Darling of the Dugout,
    Braves Fans know he rocks.

I’m talking about the one, the best,
    Bobby Cox.

I will miss you Bobby….. I pray for you daily. Enjoy the cruise and all the well wishes we have for you but most of all I hope you feel the love we have for you.

thank you for all the great memories you have gave us. you molded the atlanta braves into a team that it’s fan base is so proud of. you instilled pride and integrity to a level that is slowly being incorporated in all major league teams. it was one of the saddest days of my life after last nights final game of the season, to know that we will never see you in the dugout as our skipper again. it has been an honor to live during your tenure, and to watch the games greatest manager ever accomplish the amazing records you gave us.you will always be in the dugout ( in my mind ). congratulations on such a great career, and the very best to you and your family in your retirement. and may god bless you.
    thanks, skipper.

So long Bobby! Thanks for all the memories. As long as I have been a Braves fan you have been the manager, its going to be weird not hearing you on TV encouraging your players in the batters box, especially the nicknames you have come up with for your players (my favorite one has to be “fookie” for Furcal) I’ve never heard another manager in major league baseball do that. Its kinda funny for being the most ejected manager in baseball history I can honestly say you are probaly the most beloved. Sure going to miss ya!!! So is the game of baseball!!!

  188. rolltideboom@gmail.com

    Hey Bobby.

I gotta tell you today is a tough day for me. When you came back to the Braves as skipper, I was brand new into the Air Force. Stationed in Oklahoma, I was always watching the Braves on TBS, continuing a habit that I had started a long time before that. I always thought the world of you as manager, and I thank you for everything that you did for the city of Atlanta and the Braves organization. You are truly as class act, as evidenced by the only time I ever got the honor of meeting you. A couple of years back, the last FanFest at the Ted, you were sitting with Kelly Johnson and Sid Bream. When my turn finally came in line to meet you, I didn’t even notice because I was talking football with another fan. My wife nudged me and says, “Bobby is waiting for you!” I felt embarassed because I had made you wait. To meet me. Anyway, you were as gracious as I had always heard that you were. I thanked you for the memories, and you told me to look forward to the upcoming year, so that maybe “we can provide you with some good new memories.” I was star struck.
Next year, when the Braves take the field, I am still going to be there… Watching every pitch, chopping as always. But, it won’t be the same without you there. I will always look to the dugout for the familiar number 6. Except there will be an empty seat there. But not with me. I will always cherish the years of baseball that you managed in Atlanta. While some seasons might not have been winning seasons, the team was always winning with me, because of you.
    Thank you.
The Keller family in Alabama will miss you.
    God Speed in retirement.

Hello Bobby ~ well I just want to say thank you for all of the entertainment and encouragement you gave the fans and players these past years. I never missed a game when the Braves were on TBS, now I put up with MLB TV which goes on and off and miss a lot of the action between innings. There will always be an image of you sitting in that dugout or standing on the end shouting encouragement to the players with nicknames. I am going to miss you and whoever takes the helm, will do their best to try and fill your shoes. Thank you from this South Dakotan, a life-long Braves fan. Jim Sherman

    Bobby,
words cannot describe the sadness i am feeling as you leave the dugout. I remember when you replaced russ nixon, and the magic of 1991. i was there when greg olson leaped into smoltz’s arms, as justice caught the final out in ’91, as we watched the giants beat the dodgers, and the braves won the west. i fell in love then, and it hasn’t changed since. from the losses in the world series in 91 & 92, the WIN in 95, eric gregg’s outrageous strike zone in 97 against the marlins, the yankees in 96, 99, the padres in 98, the mets in 00, and the battles you waged in the 00’s. you handled the losses with grace and dignity, and the victories with humbleness and respect. i just cherish that my daughter got to see you in a uniform, and got to feel what I felt when i was a kid watching. you are the best. God bless you.

    Bobby,
I would like to thank you for all the memories that you have provided us at the manager of one of the best franchises. I remember sitting at home with my father when I was younger, being allowed to stay up late for the first time to watch the NLCS in 1991 and seeing Bream slide home. I had been a fan ever since I can remember back in the 80’s and became a super fan in the 90’s. I was able to turn my sons on to baseball by watching your teams in the 2000’s.

    Bobby,
Speaking for all Braves fans in Tennessee, (which is pretty much everybody) I would like to say thank you so much for all the memories and accomplishments. Tough series with San Fran. but , hey, we did all we could with what we had left after some big injuries, which was truly remarkable that we got this far to put up such a fight. It is typical of your teams. My dad, born in 1966 when the Braves moved to Atlanta really introduced me to the Braves and I love them. I was ironically born in 1995 when the Atlanta Braves won their first World Series. I have really been into the Braves the past few years and have grown attatched. I appreciate everything you did being a good high school ballplayer myself. You were the best manager to ever live, Always will remember Number 6 baby. Thanks again —Tyler Swafford

Bobby, you have been a gigantic part of my household. I am 21 years old, I have watched you since I was 10 years old. You and the Braves were my greatest influence as I played little league all the way up through his school and have been to a Braves vs. Reds game at least once a year when you all make it up this way. You made my grandmother get fired up as she watched you argue while Leo was rocking in the background of you. You really helped bring baseball into my family and helped me become a lifelong Braves fan. I cannot thank you enough and I know that the Atlanta organizational, while of course they will feel the loss of not having you there, will definitely continue to aspire to the greatness you helped them achieve so many times.

Take care Bobby. There could not have been a better match between you and the Braves. I think everyone knew that.

    bobby,
I was born in 1990 so I have never known another Braves manger but yourself. I never had the opportunity to meet you personally but by going to many, many, braves games and watching 90% of every season on television i feel like i know you. I remember when I was a young kid I absolutely loved watching you march out of that dugout when you didnt agree with the call the umps made. As i have grown up i have learned to love and respect the way you managed the braves. I can honestly say that you have turned the Braves organization into the most respected mlb team around. There are alot of managers that fans can say i dont like that guy but nobody can ever say they dont like bobby cox. I look forward to the day when the braves retire your number because nobody should be able to wear the well respected #6 of the legendary Bobby Cox. Thank you for the Love of the game the love of the braves and the love of the fans. I look forward to one day when i have kids, to take them to turner field point up to the retired #6 and say kids that is the image of the atlanta braves, Bobby cox was the greatest Brave to ever walk through this stadium. Thank you Bobby for all the memories. see you in cooperstown skip. – K.M.S.- Mcdonough GA Braves fan from birth til the day i die.

Its hard to put in words what Bobby Cox is!! He is a great manager who believed in his team! I’ve been a Braves fan since I was 5 years old and I loved watching Bobby standing up for his players! Its been a great time watch #6 as the Skipper for the Atlanta Braves. He will be greatly missed by everyone!! I got to go to Atlanta for the first time this year, I watched them play the Cards 2 games, which they won and Bobby was amazing! It was really great watching him celebrate wish his team. As young boy visiting Atlanta, I had an uncle and aunt that introduced me to the Braves. It was a passion sparked at young age. They collected AJC clippings, magaizines, and baseball cards and passed them along to their young nephew in Birmingham. With TBS, I spent time with Braves almost every night during the season. I became familar with the players’ faces and your even more familar voice from the dugout cheering them on. Although we have never met, like to many other Braves fans, you feel like family. My aunt and uncle have long sinced passed away, but the passion they provided me is something I treasure a great deal. Nights watching the Braves now allow me to remember them as I enjoy the many facets of the game.
You have been more than a great manager or even ambassador for the game of baseball. You will always be a connection to my youth, a reminder of family, and the link to my love for the Braves. I wish you all of the best in your retirement. Losses are frustrating, but Atlanta has won so much in having you represent the Braves, city, and all of Braves Country. Jonathan Allen (Jasper, AL)

I saw my first MLB game in 1982 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, and fell in love with the Braves that day. I have missed very few games since that time, mostly on TV since I live in NC and Florida. You, Bobby, have been the face of the Braves for so long that I could not read the players’ and fans’ comments about your last game and retirement with a dry eye. The success you have given the Braves will never be duplicated, and you did it the right way always, with integrity and honor. I will miss you so much. It will just never be the same without #6. I know it’s selfish though to wish you had stayed forever, and since I am retired myself, I know how wonderful retirement can be. I wish you the very best retirement ever for many, many years to come!

This is a heartfelt thank you for your incredible contributions to the Braves and professional baseball. There is no debate that you are one of the greatest managers and personalities in the history of major league baseball and for that you and your family should be very proud. I have been a Braves fan since elementary school. Everyone else here in Iowa is a Cardinals or a Cubs fan. I wanted to pick my own team. I choose the Braves and I chose Bobby as my coach. He is the only coach I’ve known. It will be very different watching the Braves without him in the dugout, or getting kicked out of games. I wanted to share my joy’s that I’ve had and to express my appreciation for everything you did for the Braves and for baseball. I had a lot of tears once I knew that last game was done and this was it for you. Still sinking in a little bit. Kudos on your great accomplishments and best wishes in all you do! I remember the times when I was quite young at Old Fulton Co Stadium when there were only a few thousand people in the stands to many sell outs this year at The Ted. You were always there and it will not be the same without you.
I have also spent my whole life a baseball historian, reading about and studying the great players and managers of this beautiful game I love so much. What I have enjoyed most about watching you through the years is knowing that I have been watching history being made.

I have been a fan of the Atlanta Braves since they first came to Atlanta in the 60’s. There have been some good managers throughout that time, but none were greater than Bobby. He has been a great role model for the young men who came through the club, and they should feel quite fortunate to have played for him. It’s so nice to have someone in the sports limelight who is a great role model. We can only wish for more like Bobby. It goes without saying that he has definitely earned some retirement time, but I know without a doubt that he will be sitting in the comfort of his living room next season, watching the game, and thinking about how to handle the club from a manager’s point of view. Once a great manager, ALWAYS a great manager. Have a good retirement Bobby. You will be missed.

    Dear Bobby,

Thank you so much for all the wonderful memories. I have been a Braves fan since I was a little girl growing up in SC, and I would listen to Milo Hamilton and Ernie Johnson on the radio every night. I even had pictures of each of the players on the 1969 team plastered all over my door! I moved to Atlanta in 1976 to go to college and never left. I married my college sweetheart, and we moved out to Gwinnett County to raise our 3 sons ( we live in the same neighborhood that another famous Brave grew up in…). I was so sad the first time you left, and I told my co-workers at the time that it was the biggest mistake Ted ever made. I was thrilled when you came back, and especially when you got back to the dugout from your upstairs office. Having been a Braves fan since I was a 7 year old in 1966, I was so happy that you brought us so much joy with all the success you have had. As our sons grew up playing ball, they always looked up to you and the Braves teams you led. You gave us countless happy memories, and we are so very, very grateful for all the years you put in working so hard to give us the very best team possible each and every year. We were in the stadium for this last series, and it was so exciting, even though it was heartbreaking. Thanks for being such a wonderful leader, and for all the treasured memories you have given us along the way. We will miss you more than words can ever express. We wish you and your family all the best.

    Bobby,
You will be missed without a doubt! I have been a Braves fan for a very long time and even have a chance to watch the guys and you during a few games back in 1999. It is with a heavy heart that I wish you well on your retirement and for the future! Thanks for such wonderful memories and for the teachings that you have passed onto all of us both on the field and off! Enjoy the family noe Bobby!

Thanks for the memories. I grew up listening to Braves games on a transistor radio in the 1960’s, but no manager came close to the success you had, and the joy you brought to Braves fans. Although your Post Season success probably wasn’t what you wanted it to be, we fans appreciate the winning environment you brought to the Braves. Good luck with all you plan to do it the future, and thanks again!!

Congrats, Bobby on your great career. I know Coach Cropsey will be proud. Even though I no longer work for the Selma Enterprise, I hope they will do a story on you soon. I am hoping that you will be able to come back to Selma next year so we can retire your high school number and hopefully induct you into the Selma Athletic Hall of Fame. I guess we waited until you could be there.

    Bobby,
Thank you for helping me making memories of a lifetime! So many major events in my life have ties to the Atlanta Braves over the course of the last 20 years, and I have you (and the players!) to thank. My dad and I have a special bond through our love of baseball (even though he’s had a much harder time as a lifelong Red Sox fan!), I remember watching the game that Jeff Blauser hit 4 homeruns with my grandfather before he passed away, I remember where I was when Sid slid, I have a mental image of John Smoltz on the mound as the team went from worst to first in ’91 and will never forget the moment in 1995 when the Braves won it all. As a resident of Atlanta now, I’m proud to call the Braves my home team. Thank you for 20 great years of memories!

What a great opportunity this is to thank Bobby Cox – the greatest playing manager in the game.

Thank you Mr. Cox for giving so much to the greatest game and so much to all the fans. It was you and the Braves teams over the last 15 years that re-invigorated my love for baseball. I and my family are and will forever remain Braves fans because of your great work, total professionalism and inspiring sportsmanship. You are not only among the giants of the greatest game, you are a personal inspiration to countless numbers of your loyal fans.

There will never be another manager like Bobby Cox. I am sure that the Braves will go on to do great things – but not without abiding by the standards set for them by this great man of baseball.

    Coach,

Thank you for all the years you spent managing the Braves. It WILL NOT be the same without seeing you standing at the dugout steps encouraging every Braves batter. It has been fun to watch the team over the last several decades. Enjoy retirement and I’m sure we’ll get a glimpse of you around the ballpark. Tammy Faircloth Evans, Ga.

    Bobby,

I cannot begin to imagine baseball or the Atlanta Braves without you! In an age where players/managers/coaches alike are constantly changing teams, etc, it was so refreshing to have you as a constant fixture with the Braves! Watching you and the boys always brought me great pleasure and over the years it has been truly evident how much you truly care about your team and the game itself. I hate that we couldn’t get one last championship for you this year but I know how hard those boys fought and persevered all year – I know how proud you are of them as am I and the rest of Braves country. Know that you will be truly missed next year! It is indeed the end of an era!

I have only been following the Braves from London, UK for five or so years, but I made sure I could see my first ever live game of baseball (at any level) this year so that I could see Bobby manage. A legend. Good luck in the future, sorry that injury robbed us of so much momentum this season.

I LOVE my Braves and watch whenever I can even though I moved to TN. Bobby, you made Braves baseball enjoyable for me. I can only hope that the Braves will continue to be as enjoyable without you.

I have been a braves fan all of my life. But I will remember fondly the last 20 years. The Braves have made me cry with joy and sadness, but it has all been worth it. I have been sitting on the edge of my seat for all these years. I was there when the Braves beat the Astros in 1990 to start their run as the best in baseball. I worked for the Braves in the 1980’s and have always enjoyed being at the ballpark. My family and I are luck enough to have watched the Braves and their wonderful manager for the past 20 years. Thanks for the memories and looking forward to seeing you at the ballpark for years to come. You are truly a class act. Atlanta has been blessed to have you as a part of their organization. Godspeed and God bless.

Bobby is much more than a manager or sports figure. He has become a role model and an architype for young athletes across the country. Bobby’s soft-spoken demeanor and respect for the game and the people around him are unheard of anymore. I have been lucky enough to call myself a Braves fan for as long as I can remember. I suffered through the rotten 80’s as a fan. I almost came out of my skin in 1991 when they clinched a spot in the playoffs. Thank you Bobby for all the fantastic years and memories. You definitely do leave behind a legacy as you move into retirement. That legacy is everywhere you look on the Braves organization. Much more than that, you have left an impression upon professional sports that will take many many years to be faded.

  243. david@eastatlantaproperty.com

My father taught me baseball. Bobby Cox taught me to love Atlanta Braves baseball.

A few weeks back I found myself becoming emotionally wrapped up in the Braves?..more than usual I should say??well it didn?t take me long to realize that Bobby Cox and Braves baseball bring me fond thoughts of my late father.

I played baseball from the time I could walk up until the beginning of high school. My father taught me to play and never missed a game. We went to Braves games together. The playoffs when they came to Atlanta. The World Series when possible. It was our time.

Having spent a good part of the past few weeks at The Ted and certainly the last two nights I must pass along my thoughts.

I couldn?t be more proud to have witnessed Bobby?s last season. We should be proud of what our Braves accomplished. I am proud of Bobby and I am proud of Brooks Conrad. Bobby managed my Braves for 25 of my 37 years. He made Atlanta proud and our nation proud. Over the past few weeks I spoke with fans who had travelled from Arkansas, New York, Miami, California, Hawaii and London, UK to see Bobby. The award goes to my friend Tim who travelled from London to catch his first MLB games and more importantly to see Bobby. Braves country is everywhere!

I can only hope that this message somehow finds its way to Bobby and Brooks! You have made me proud! My father would have been thrilled.

I spent some time with my father this morning. It was the natural thing to do.

THANK YOU BRAVES! THANK YOU BROOKS! THANK YOU BOBBY COX!!!!

Bobby you are the model of how to run an organization. You didn’t have to go out and spend a lot of money on players to be good. Thank you Bobby for bringing a winning attitude and spirit to this club, and for all the wonderful memories and success you’ve had here. Bobby,
Thank you for everything for the last 25 years, the last 21 of which I was alive to see. My summer nights were always filled with watching the Braves on TV and it won’t be the same without you chirping from the dugout. I wish I could truly thank you for everything you’ve done for this team and for me personally. I get chills every time I walk into Turner Field, because of the way the game is played there, and because of those pennants out in left-center. Thank you for everything, especially 1995. I wish you and you family the absolute best outside of baseball and thank you for making us fans feel like we were Braves too.

    DEAR BOBBY,

AS A PORTLAND NATIVE, PEOPLE OFTEN WONDER HOW I BECAME AN AVID BRAVES FAN. MY FATHER PLAYED BASEBALL AND WORKED HIS WAY INTO THE MINORS, IN HIGH SCHOOL HE PLAYED WITH THE GREAT DALE MURPHY. AS HE FOLLOWED HIS FRIENDS JOURNEY, I TOO BECAME A BRAVES FAN AND SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS PLAYING SOFTBALL. THANKS TO TED TURNER AND TBS I WAS ABLE TO WATCH EVERY BASEBALL GAME IMAGINABLE. THE LAST GAME WAS GUT WRENCHING AND FULL OF TEARS. IN A WAY YOU WERE THE GRANDFATHER I NEVER HAD AND ALWAYS WANTED. MY LIFE GOAL IS TO GET TO ATLANTA ONE DAY AND EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF A BRAVES GAME, UNFORTUNATELY IT DIDN’T HAPPEN WHILE YOU WERE MANAGING. YOUR LOYALTY, LOVE FOR THE GAME AND YOUR PLAYERS IS SOMETHING EVERY ATHLETE AND COACH SHOULD ADMIRE. YOU WILL TRULY BE MISSED. XXXAIMEE ZAGELOW

    Mr. Cox,
I want to thank you personally for the wonderful job you have done over all the years. When I think of you I automatically think of baseball. You are baseball. You not sitting in the dugout with glove in hand and of course those cleats will be such an oddity! You and the Atlanta Braves team have brought such excitement and fun into my life . There was a time I would not even watch a baseball game and now I can’t even imagine my life without it! You have kept me and my family on the edge of our seats, we have wept, screamed, yelled, rejoiced, laughed and called many a play from our living room right along with you and that great bunch of men you have managed, coached, been a father 2. I think we are all better for it to! So thanks so much for being the man that God created you to be, you’re a awesome human being and wonderful man and we will miss you so very much.

I know this will probably read old hat but the way ya went out today handing the reigns over to Fredi when ya said he’ll make us forget the way Lasorda made Dodger fans forget Walter Alston was just another stamp of class you have left all over the Atlanta Braves organization. Hi Bobby,

I wanted to thank you for your contributions to making the Atlanta Braves franchise a successful organization. You have come a long way in becoming one of baseball’s all-time greatest and winningest managers. You have entertained us all these years by being MLB’s all-time leader in ejections; but most of all you have accomplished something no other manager had in winning fourteen consecutive division titles and managing three great Cy Young caliber pitchers in Smoltz, Maddux, and Glavine. You will be greatly missed in the baseball world, and you are deserving to be in the National Baseball Hall of Fame someday.
Have a happy retirement and best of luck to you and your family Bobby.

    Sincerely,
    Frank J. Peranio

Bobby; politely I should address you as Mr. Cox but you have been in my living room for so many years..we all just know you as Bobby. You are the reason I became a Braves fan so many years ago. I grew up in Pittsburgh and went to college in PA so there were closer teams. I have been living in VA for 33 years teaching You just made baseball so fantastic. I actually made it to Atlanta last summer, 2009, for your opening weekend and got tickets for all 3 games that week-end and I also got tickets for when you played Boston..so I actually was in the stadium for 6 games. I have gone to see you at the Nationals stadium and at the Phillies stadium. You have shown such knowledge and respect for the game. I hope you have a great retirement and I know you will still be involved somehow…you have my deepest respect and I wish you the best.

    Dear Bobby,
You have been manager for the Atlanta Braves ever since I was 11 years old (I am 34 years old now), and I would like to thank you so much for exemplifying the greatness of character that has made the Atlanta Braves my favorite baseball team for the last 21 years. Though I will miss you brilliance managing the team and your competitiveness arguing all those many calls, I am thankful that you competitiveness has made the Braves what we all knew the team could be during the wasteland years, one of Major League Baseball’s great teams. We will miss you! Once again, thanks for all you have done to make great players into a great team.

    Dear Bobby,
It has been a very emotiional time, hoping and praying for a win in each playoff game and knowing one of those could be the last time seeing you cheering on your players from the dugout. Living in upstate NY I could easily be a fan of our two baseball teams but never was. Back when Lemke joined the Braves, I started following the team as I worked with Mark’s father. I admired you from the start and have been a die hard fan throughout all the years. I watched all the games on TBS, then when that stopped, I would catch action on Gameday if not on national tv. If I lived in Atlanta, I would have been at every game. Fortunately, I did get to watch the Braves play the Twins in a pre-season game in Cooperstown but my greatest thrill was in Jan 07 when you came to Syracuse for a Hot Stove dinner. I was so excited to just be there to see and hear you speak, but when I got to meet and talk to you and get a photo of the two of us, that is a memory that will never be forgotten. Your illustrious career is second to none, but your personality and care for your players and fans is amazing. All year I have been thinking I can’t imagine watching a game without you there encouraging your players “Come on Kid” but with heavy heart will never stop supporting the Braves knowing you will be there in spirit. God bless Bobby, continued good health and enjoy your retirement. You certainly deserve it. Can’t wait for Cooperstown, I’ll be the first one there to see you inducted.

    Dear Bobby,
Wow, what can I say. Just to start, you will never be replaced. The Atlanta Braves will not be the same without you. I grew up a Braves and will forever be. You are the only manager I ever knew, and never thought it would come to an end. When the 2011 season kicks off, it will not be the same without seeing that familiar #6 in the dugout. I was at both home playoff games this year, hoping that we could pull yall through to the NLCS and extend your final season. Even in not making it to the next round, I wouldn’t trade those two days for anything because I was able to see the Future Hall of Fame Manager manage his final two games. Next year will not be the same when a call doesn’t go our way, because we all know that #6 wont be coming out to defend our team and fire up the crowd. You are, in my mind, the greatest manager of all time. I hope to meet you one day, shake your hand and simply say thank you for all the memories you gave me as a Braves fan. Enjoy your retirement. Cooperstown want be far, and I hope to be there to see you inducted.
    Thanks Bobby,

Bobby, you have been a part of my life and children’s since you came to the Braves. We have watched with wide eyed amusement the way you take new members of a Braves team and mix in some not so new members and always give us a thrill from April till October. Your love and passion for the game is beyond measure. Your 14 division wins was amazing. Thank you for loving the game and making us love the game as well, especially the Braves. You will be missed.

    Dear Bobby,
I have watched the Braves the entire time you have been with them. I can’t tell you how much I am going to miss seeing you in the dugout. I think that you are a classy man and you remind me of my dad. The way you manage your team and stood up for them you deserve the respect you have been given. Most of all I think that because you did not dis grace any player on the field but in private showsthe true character you have.
Enjoy your retirement which you so richly deserve. Again I am going to miss you more than my words can express.
May God Bless you and your family.

In 1966, when the Braves came to Atlanta from Milwaukee, I was under 10 years old but became a lifelong Braves fan. I never heard of Bobby Cox as a player, or a coach, for the Yankees; but I watched the Yankees on TV, each Saturday, it seemed, until the Braves moved to town. Who would’ve thought that a 25 year-old minor league player at the time would one day be the Braves’ best manager and my hero?

At my first postgraduate job interview–in Atlanta, in 1976, I got the job, I believed, when I answered one last question, relating to perseverance, “I’ve been a Braves fan since ’66, through the good times and the bad, but I will always love them and know that they will be winners one day.” Only a decade and a half later, after marriage and the birth of two sons did you, Bobby Cox, turn my 30 year hope into reality!

My first son could name the Braves’ starting lineup when he was just two years old, and my second son saw the Braves first at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium while still in diapers! When we moved to North Carolina, before their starting to school, I kept them fans of “America’s Team” through TBS. We shared the joy, in 1995, a World Series Championship, with you and the Braves while they attended middle school.

Luckily, we also attended Durham Bulls games, the AA farm team of the Braves (at that time), where many of your draft recruits, while General Manager, played on the way to “The Show.” In other words, throughout their formative years, our sons thought of Bobby Cox and the Atlanta Braves as synonymous. We–a young father and his two sons–could not have had any better hero than Bobby Cox. Thank you.

    Bobby,
I want to wish you the best in your retirement. I have been a Braves fan since the late 60’s and early 70’s, even when the Braves struggled. I really followed them closely when you arrived, the way that you handled the players and pitchers was spectacular. The game of baseball is a lot worse off since you decided to hang up the spikes.

    Good Luck,

    Bobby,
I was here for your first run as manager, and I never thought I’d see the second run end. You are the greatest manager the game has ever seen. I wish you could have gone out with a World Series, but, it is what it is. I wish you luck in your retirement, enjoy it, and know that this fan thinks you’re the greatest. Thank you for all you’ve done!

It’s hard to believe that you won’t be standing on that rail or sitting intensely inside the dugout anymore, or coming out to support your players after a bad call. I’ve been a Braves fan since I was 12(early 80s) and remember what it was like to route for a team who didn’t seem to win too much. Then all of that changed in the 90s and what a wonderful ride it has been. It’s a different feeling when you’ve never been a fair-weather fan and then you’re finally rewarded for it. My husband and I met you on a road trip in St. Louis. We were having breakfast when my husband came and told me that you had just come out of your room for coffee. I was in disbelief and remembered thinking I didn’t want to bother you(especially since the night before we had lost to the Reds). Very nervous, I couldn’t resist saying hello. You were so kind to take a moment to speak with us. I admire your skills and flexibilty as teacher, trainer, and manager. I especially admire the humility you have always shown. I will definitely miss watching you guide our team. I hope that you will write a book that shares your experiences and highlights your memories. You have led by example and have positively influenced so many players, coaches, and fans. I am proud that I am an Atlanta Braves fan and supporter of this organization. Wish you the best always. Thanks for the GREAT years. Take care.

Hi Bobby, I’ve only known of you for five years but watching you and the team has always been a pleasure.

I’ll miss you sitting in the dugout or standing on the step. I’ve never seen a more passionate manager who will stand up for his players.

    Bobby,
I have been a Braves fan since 1956, where at the age of 4, I watched the Milwaukee Braves beat the Chicago Cubs. Black and White Game of the week at its finest. Since then I have seen the good years and the bad, including the 14 year run of outstanding Braves baseball. 2010 marked a great year with perhaps your most difficult managerial task due to injuries, pitching rotations, lack of offensive production, and a meriad of rookies having to fill big shoes. I wish to express my sincere thanks to you for every one of the 158 ejections, showing your players and your fans that the umpires are not always right. I love to see you stand up for your players. Certainly Cooperstown will greet you with open arms when that first ballot day comes. We will all miss hearing you yelp from the dugout “C’mon Kid”. Thanks for all the joyful memories and tragic one run losses. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the greatest manager of this era lead the Atlanta Braves all these years. TBS and MLB extra innings have made living in NJ bearable. Go Braves, beat those Mets. Let’s make sure you stay vocal from the front office.

Thank you Bobby for your many years of service to the Atlanta Braves and all us fans. Its been a true pleasure to watch someone whos as good as you are at there job. From what I have read it would be very hard to find more than a handful of players who would say a bad word about you which says even more than we fans can. I hope you enjoyed your 25 years in the Bravos uni as much as we did. I dont know of any player who would not say you stood up for them and that created a foxhole mentality that I think served your teams more than most understand.

I hope you enjoyed your years in the ATL as much as we enjoyed the loyality from you.

    Cheers

    Dear Mr. Bobby Cox,
It has been a joy and a pleasure watching the Atlanta Braves over the past 20+ years. What a GREAT organization the Braves have become over that time, and I certainly believe you are responsible for most of that. The organization is now one of the most respected and regarded as one of the classiest teams in the game. Like you, I have always loved the game of baseball, I learned so much from you… one of the most important things being; not to get too high during the highs and not to get too low during the lows. No doubt your players as well as your colleagues all respected that. Your calm, steady, and passionate approach to each and every game [ each pitch and every at bat ] has made you the best manager of all time!! My dream was not only to play professional baseball, not only to play for the braves, but to play for the legendary Bobby Cox! It’s gonna be strange not seeing you on the top step cheering on your players, giving the umps an earful ha ha… but you have given so much to this team, this city, the fans, and to all of baseball, you definitely deserve a break!!! I hope you enjoy each and everyday of your retirement, I hope to one day shake your hand, sir. You will forever be an Atlanta Brave Bobby Cox, Thanks for all the great memories, my family wishes you and yours all the best!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Bobby,

I have been a fan since birth and I was born in Philadelphia. My father is a native Atlantan and he brought me up the right way. I saw my first Braves game at Veterans Stadium and we beat those Phils. As I got older and we moved back to Atlanta I embraced this team and came to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium and Turner Field after it so many times I can’t count.

I love this team, I love the intensity you brought on the field everyday. I love the way you stand up for your players. We will miss you and the people who say otherwise just don’t understand the game. At the basic level these players are normal average people and you’ve got to be able to read them to coach them.

    Bobby reads people.
Thanks Bobby for so many great years of baseball in Atlanta.
    Here’s to retirement.

    Brad Cleveland

  292. carltoncoldy@gmail.com

I remember my first Braves game….
My dad took me to Fulton County Stadium and Dale Murphy hit a homerun, I was hooked from that point on.

I am a huge Braves fan. I remember a few bad years in the late ’80’s when I was a kid, but it didn’t matter. It was basball and it was my team! I have been fortunante enough to see the Braves go through a very successful long run, and it all started with you Bobby. The joy watching your teams play and how you managed your players has been special to watch.

It not just the winning…it is the way you handled yourself and your players. Everyone should strive to be like you. You are a thoughtful, caring person, who knew how to get the best out of someone. You did it the right way. And I’m willing to bet everyone you have had contact with in your life time is better person because of you.

Thanks for the memories! Have a wonderful retirement! And thanks for being you!

Thank you Bobby. Thank you for everything. You’ve managed the Braves my entire life, and watching them will never be quite the same without you there in the dugout. Thank you for the memories, and all the years of great baseball. In the end, I think you said it best- “There’s nothing like a baseball game.”

Thank you. You will be missed, and you will never be forgotten.

Dear Bobby, i´ve been a Braves fan since I have memory, 24 years now, whats funny is that im from Mexico and no one in my family even watches baseball, so no one really understands how I ended up loving the Braves. If I had to make a guess id say it was thanx to you and your love for the game, love which was very contagious. Thank you for all this incredible years, you will be very missed , God bless , Alejandro – Mexico.

    Bobby,

I’ve followed the Braves since they were in Milwaukee in 1954,
Then I picked up on you in 91″ when you played the Twins in
the World Series. I was torn on who to put for being I live in
Minneapolis now. and was just crushed when you didn’t win’
    in ’92.

I’m thankful that the fans and umpires congradulated you at the end of the game.

ONE MORE THING WOULD BE PERFECT IF THE UMPIRES COULD HAVE THROWN YOU OUT OF THE GAME ONE LAST TIME; THEN
WELCOMED YOU BACK AS IT WAS ONLY A JOKE.

Many happy memories of you and Leo over the years.

    Bobby,
We have planned all our vacations around Braves games and I can’t imagine not hearing you calling the boys “kid” from the dugout. I lost my job last week after informing my employers that I had to have the last week of June and first of July off to go to SD and Seattle for the games. They refused to give me the time off and let me go…Some things are more important than working for unhappy people. Thank you so much for your dedication to the game of baseball and your obvious love for the team. It won’t be the same without you. All the best to you and your family for a great future. Sincerely,

    Bobby,
I was born in 89, so I litterally have grown up watching the continual dominance of the Braves over the last several seasons. my brothers and I grew up each having our own guy who we pretended to be in the backyard pickup games (mine was Javy Lopez). This passed year was difficult for my family as we lost my grandfather and my brother to death. As painful as this past year has been, I still found myself watching Braves games on TV just like I had my whole life and it felt as if my granddad and brother were right there as we had spent every summer and so many falls. Congratulations on the return to post-season play that had defined baseball in Atlanta. I hope you enjoy your retirement. please know that you will always be apart of the Braves family and just like losing my family has changed my way of viewing the braves, I know that it wont be the same without you next year, but i look forward to the season anyway.

    THANK YOU!!!
I have been a Braves fan my entire life (33yrs) and my family dating back three generation to the Boston Braves. But to me the Braves and Bobby Cox are synonymous. Through your influence the Braves organization is ?the standard? and one that all fans can be proud of. Beyond bringing decades of respect to the organization and its people, years of happy memories to the fans, you also provided small but important imprints in each of our lives. For me it was the father son bond I have forged with my father through Braves baseball, an irreplaceable and immeasurable experience. Although you will no longer be the familiar face in the dugout in the coming years, what it has meant to me I will carry for a lifetime and hope to one day share with a little boy of my own.
I wish you the very best future and retirement! Thank you just doesn?t seem sufficient enough!

If you’ve seen the movie The Fan where Robert Dinero is obsessed with the Wesley Snipes’ character and the San Francisco Giants, that’s me with The Atlanta Braves (in a nice way of course) 🙂 I’ve been living in New York for 30-Years and have been a Braves Fan for 20-years and counting and will always be. I was there on October 11, 2010 where Mr. Cox managed his last game and yes it was sad… Does anyone know where I can buy a Time Machine so I can go back to 1991 and start it all over? Mr. Cox I know your now a consultant so please make sure you give advice to Mr. Fredi Gonzalez so he can continute The Dynasty for another 50-Years! Your The Best!

I’m not going to sit here and talk about how great of a manager Bobby is because we all now that. I want to thank him for great memories unfortunately i was born in ’87 so they are limited. All i remember groing up in the 90’s was after church on sunday i’d go to my grandparents house and eat lunch and watch the Braves play. My grandfather passed away and i can say the best memories i had with him was enjoying watching the braves every sunday on TBS. Thank You Bobby!!! What a great Career!!! GO BRAVES!!

thank you bobby for so many memories. It was an honor to watch you take the braves from just some guys to a force to be reckoned with. It was awesome seeing the braves win the 1995 world series. if it wasnt for you then I dont think that would have ever happened. I really wish you could coach forever but no matter how much we love it we all gotta call it one day. I seriously cried like a child when the showed the interview. I was thinking this is a dream. Thank you sooo much bobby for everything and you will always be the best there ever is ever was and ever will be go bravos

I moved to GA in 1991 when I first started teaching. I began to follow the Braves during that year. You are the only manager that I have known, and I cannot imagine the Braves dugout without you. Best wishes always. Please know you will be missed more than you know.

Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the mysterious and humbling game of baseball. I have always had a love for the game and its players.

In the eyes of the game, I will always be that kid with a dream. A dream of walking onto that baseball field and playing in the game I love. Representing my team and family with honor. Booby Cox did just that. Bobby has been an icon who sparked my passion for the game. His example, taught me to respect the game and to be patient with winning.

As I watched the Braves in 2010, I saw something very special. I saw an iconic manager say farewell, and become a part of history one last time. Watching Bobby Cox at his best, was inspiring and forever memorable. His humble approach and patience with the players will set an example for years to come.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication throughout the years with the Atlanta Braves. You are at the foundation of my Braves patronage, and I will be always be grateful.

    Sincerely,

I have been a Braves fan since I was a child, always knowing that Bobby Cox would be there for the next season when one closed. I am at a loss now…..still loving my team but in a type of “mourning” knowing he is not coming back.
Although I am still always going to be there cheering on my Atlanta Braves…….it will forever be changed.

Many years of retired bliss to you and yours Bobby,

I remember I was 7 years old in 1995 and i picked the braves to win the World Series. They are my favorite team then and they still are today.
Then 12 years later, when I officially turned 19, my sister bought me a present that i could never forget. Braves tickets. I was so happy that i was going to my dream place i wanted to go since i was child. Turner Field.
I got 4 autographs, one before and three after the game and at that time i was the game, John Smoltz was pitching against Tom Glavine and Smoltz got his 200th Career win.
I was there and i will never forget the memories when Bobby Cox was the braves manager before and throughout my generation.
Bobby, you made the braves into a team that nobody will ever forget. 14 Straight NL East titles 5 Pennants and a World Series title. Neither team in baseball nor any sport has won 14 straight.
Bobby you will always be remembered as the only guy that also hit an inside the park grand slam when in my mother’s generation and in my life you will be remembered as a genuine manager in your players, your team, your fans and the entire Braves organization.
I will miss you Bobby Cox. I hope you enjoy retirement for the rest of your life. All the best for you.

I know i’m a little late, but I want to show my appreciation. I’m an 18 year old Braves fan from Wisconsin. There are two things that throughout my life that were consistant with Braves baseball. Three really. Bobby Cox, Chipper Jones, and greatness. I think my most cherished memory of the Bobby Cox era, would be that for the first 15 years of my life, the Braves won their division, proving they were a force to be reckoned with. I’m thrilled that our team, America’s team, gave you Bobby, the greatest General Manager in Baseball history, one last shot. I will miss you, and I wish you all the best.
